West African goat skins are renowned among African drummers as the best sounding, longest lasting skins available. The sound difference between an African head and a head from Pakistan or elsewhere can be immediately heard by African drummers and we believe that you will hear the difference too. Do you own an African drum? Use an African skin!
The skins we are offering are whole, sun dried, untreated, fully haired goatskins imported from Senegal. They have been selected for their quality as drum heads for African drums, being free of holes, scars, warts, flay cuts or other imperfections which weaken the skin under tension or otherwise produce non-optimum sound quality. These rawhide, haired goatskins are washed and dusted for insects without using harmful chemicals so that you receive skins which are bug free.

Goatskins are available to you in two sizes, two thicknesses, and a wide variety of hair colors all at the same price. The small size is suitable for drums up to 14" in diameter and the large for any drum up to 20". Many djembe players prefer thicker skins for djembes unless you want one pitched very high. The thinner skins are best for high-pitched drums or smaller head diameters. For your special projects we sometimes have extra large, heavy goatskins and extra small, thin kid skins or calf skins as well.
Single, haired skins sell for $30 each COD, with free shipping for shipments within the United States. If you need two or more then the price drops to $25 each. (For shipping costs to outside the US , please inquire via email.) ORDER
Shaved Goatskins. In addition to the fully haired skins we also keep a limited number of completely shaved skins of the same quality as the haired skins described above. They sell for the same price, $30 each or two for $25 each, COD shipping included. ORDER
We also carry hand shaved goatskin 'rounds' from Pakistan in a 22 inch diameter, big enough for most projects. While they don't quite have the sound quality of our other skins they do have the convenience of already being shaved and cut and are also more affordable. The price on these is $20 each, COD, with free shipping to anywhere in the US. ORDER

Cowhide. We now have haired cowhide! Good thick clean cowhide rawhides with the hair still on. Perfect for Djun-djuns, bougarabou, or any other haired cowhide drum. Note: this is not thin calf hide, but full thickness cow hide. We will custom cut rounds for you in any size, in matching hair colors if you wish (We can also special order dehaired cowhide for you if that is what you need). The prices will depend on the sizes you want. As an example, a 20 inch round of haired rawhide will be just $35 COD. Free shipping to anywhere in the US. ORDER
NEW! Other Hides and Skins. Do you want to try something different? We now have legal access to dehaired rawhides of Antelope, Deer, Elk, Buffalo (American bison), Horse, and an occasional Moose. We don't keep these in stock as we haven't had a lot of requests, but we do have immediate access to them. The prices vary widely as each hide or skin is graded and priced individually for size and quality, so you will have to tell us what you want and we'll do the shopping. Prices can run from $50 for an Antelope skin to $200 for a large Buffalo hide. Here are some guidelines that may help:
Antleope skins are small, thin, and elastic. Deer is similar to an extra thick goatskin and is somewhat more elastic. Elk is similar to thin cowhide. Buffalo is like thick cowhide and can get very thick indeed in the area of the shoulders and hump (up to 1/2"). I have not worked with the Horse or Moose hides and cannot make recommendations on them yet.
